China says stable yuan is important

China needs to keep its yuan stable for the time being, in the interests of global trade and the world economy, according to Commerce Minister, Chen Deming. Mr Chen, who's on a trade mission to Europe, also said he thought the mainland economy would be able to achieve moderate growth this year. But he played down expectations about it taking a leading role in pulling the world out of the economic crisis. Beijing is under some pressure from trading partners to let the yuan strengthen further, with critics saying it is artificially undervalued.
